Montco gay marriage

It’s been a watershed year for the movement to legalize gay marriage.¬† In June, the Supreme Court made two historic rulings backing same-sex marriage, giving gay couples entitlement to the same federal benefits as straight couples, and effectively striking down California‚Äôs ban on gay marriage. ¬†But in Pennsylvania, where gay marriage remains illegal, the issue continues to be a divisive one.¬† Montgomery County‚Äôs Register of Wills, D Bruce Hanes has started issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, in defiance of state law.¬† He‚Äôs now being sued by the Pennsylvanian Department of Health, which says Hanes is causing ‚Äúadministrative and legal chaos‚ÄĚ.¬† We’ll speak to D BRUCE HANES, the Montgomery County Register of Wills, about his decision to let gay couples tie the knot.¬† We’re also joined by Montgomery County Commissioner BRUCE CASTOR, who‚Äôs also a lawyer and a Republican, and CHRISTOPHER BORICK, Professor of Political Science at Muhlenberg College and Director of the Muhlenberg College Institute of Public Opinion.
