What’s Happening in Latin America

July 23, 2013

Guests: Shannon K. O’Neil, Cynthia Arnson

From protests across Brazil to Edward Snowden’s search for asylum in the region, there’s been a lot of news coming from Latin American this summer. In addition, a North Korean ship was seized in Panama en route from Cuba with Cold War weapons on board, peace talks are being negotiated between the government and guerrilla group FARC in Colombia, and the head of the notorious Zetas drug cartel has been taken into custody in Mexico. In this hour of Radio Times we’ll talk about current events in Latin America and what they say about the region’s quest for progress, its future role on the world stage, and U.S. relations. Joining us to discuss these developments are SHANNON O’NEIL of the Council on Foreign Relations and CYNTHIA ARNSON of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
