A look at the new DSM with psychotherapist Gary Greenberg

July 12, 2013

GUEST: GARY GREENBERG

The first DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) was published in 1952. It has been updated in the 60 years since including this year with its fifth edition. Its publication has been hailed by some and slammed by others. It now uses genetic and biological factors along with physical and behavioral symptoms to describe and diagnose psychological disorders. Some conditions are out and some new ones are in. One of the critics of the new DSM is our guest, psychotherapist and author, GARY GREENBERG, whose new book is “The New Book of Woe: The DSM and the Unmaking of Psychiatry.”
