Bishop Gene Robinson

June 12, 2013

GUEST: GENE ROBINSON

Ten years ago GENE ROBINSON became the first elected, openly gay American Episcopalian bishop. Recently retired as the ninth Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of New Hampshire, he has been a leading spokesperson for gay rights and gay marriage. His high profile leadership and interpretation of religious texts of the Bible has been met with a lot of criticism from those opposed to homosexuality, and in 2008 several conservative churches left the Church. Robinson has an active retirement: he is a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress, works in AIDS education in the United States and in Africa, and has written a book, “God Believes in Love: Straight Talk About Gay Marriage.”
