Travel writer MATT GROSS’ tales of losing his way around the world

May 31, 2013

GUEST: MATT GROSS

Travel writer MATT GROSS writes he never explicitly sought out eating strange food – the spiders, porcupine and Rocky Mountain oysters he tried were “logical consequences” of his career. The former New York Times “Frugal Traveler” columnist found himself in many lonely misadventures –picking unknown, roadside berries in Vancouver to keeping an eye on a gun-toting stranger while eating a delicious eel meal in Ho Chi Minh City – and discovered how to master the difficulties of independent, modern travel. He shares these tips in his new book, “The Turk Who Loved Apples and Other Tales of Losing My Way Around the World.”
