Some good news in the childhood obesity battle

December 20, 2012

This year there’s some good news in the fight against childhood obesity – particularly for Philadelphia. Rates of childhood obesity have declined in Philadelphia along with a few other cities including New York, El Paso, and Anchorage.  Though decreases are small, it is still welcome news after three decades of steadily increasing rates among kids.  This hour, we’ll take a look at the declines and the policies that may explain them.  Our guests are GARY FOSTER, Director of the Center for Obesity Research and Education at Temple University and GIRIDHAR MALLYA, Director of Policy and Planning at the Philadelphia Department of Public Health.
