What would you save if your house was burning?
October 4, 2012
If your house was on fire, what would you grab as you ran out the door? That’s the question that photographer FOSTER HUNTINGTON posed on a blog he called The Burning House and he got thousands photographs from people showing their most priceless possessions – a pocket watch, a laptop, a worn paperback, an old stuffed bear, a family photo album, a vintage Spiderman comic, a guitar, or a fuzzy blanket. This hour, we’re looking at the meaning of the stuff in our lives and what it says about who we are. We’ll talk to Huntington about his “Burning House” project which has been turned into a book of the same name. And, we’ll talk with Connecticut College anthropologist ANTHONY GRAESCH who studies material culture and is the co-author of the book “Life at Home in the Twenty-First Century: 32 Families Open Their Doors.”
