Has pop music changed?

September 10, 2012

What is pop music and how does it change throughout the decades? The top ten songs on Itunes and Billboard may not reflect what you listen to and your grandparents listened to, but millions of people are still paying for the music. And young, new stars are still coming out of the music industry, selling out concerts and selling us products on TV and media devices used to consume music. A recent study has come out of Spain, “Measuring the Evolution of Contemporary Western Popular Music,” showing data of the homogenization of pop music in the last 55 years. We’ll have a listening session with music writer, TOM MOON, and long-time Grammy Award-winning recording engineer and music producer, PHIL NICOLO, to hear patterns of song structure over the last several decades.
