Pennsylvania's complicated voting system
July 31, 2012
How much control do Pennsylvania voters have over their state's election process? Registration deadlines are restrictive compared to other states; early and mail-in voting guidelines are incompatible with on-site voting; and those living in the Keystone state do not participate in statewide referendums and initiatives. Commonwealth residents can’t participate in recall elections, and recent gerrymandering of congressional and state legislative districts have left some voters feel powerless. Do we want more flexibility in our election system, or should voter participation remain as it is? Our guests, CHRIS BORICK, associate professor of political science at Muhlenberg College, and TIM POTTS, Co-Founder & President of Democracy Rising, will help us understand the complicated, and some say, arcane system in which we elect our government officials.
