Previewing New Jersey's primary election
May 30, 2012
New Jersey voters go to the polls Tuesday for the Garden State’s primary election. Mitt Romney has the Republican presidential nomination sewn up, so the allegiance of New Jersey’s 50 delegates to the GOP national convention isn’t getting much attention lately. But further down the ballot, Republicans are picking the nominee to challenge incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator Robert Menendez, with Monmouth state Senator Joe Kyrillos leading his Republican rivals. A few Congressional primaries have attracted interest, especially in the 9th and 10th districts. But as usual, Governor Chris Christie continues to garner more than his share of statewide and national media coverage, lately joined in a funny video and notoriety by Newark’s political star of a mayor Cory Booker. Joining us to preview Tuesday’s primary vote, and analyze the latest news out of Trenton, are DARRYL ISHERWOOD, editor of New Jersey’s influential political news website, PolitickerNJ.com; and CHARLES STILE, political columnist for The (Bergen) Record.
