Since the "KONY 2012" video went viral on March 5, over 75 million viewers have watched it online. Created by the nonprofit organization Invisible Children, the video was produced to create awareness of the atrocities perpetrated by Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) on the people of Uganda. Despite its popularity, the "KONY 2012" video and the social media campaign surrounding its release have come under much criticism for simplifying the issues and manipulating the facts surrounding Kony and the LRA. In this hour of Radio Times, we will talk about the "KONY 2012" campaign, its goals and the controversy with KATE CRONIN-FURMAN, a human rights attorney who blogs at wrongingrights.com, and SARAH MARGON from the Center for American Progress. Then we’ll take a deeper look into the current state of affairs in Uganda, the search for Joseph Kony, the status of the LRA and U.S. policy in the region.
