Many families are gathering for the holidays this year, but if it’s Christmas being celebrated, is the feast day December 25^th or January 6^th – or January 19^th, when Ethiopians celebrate the Epiphany? Elsewhere a table may feature a family recipe for a sweet kugel dish next to a pungent, Korean kimchi. Temple journalism professor and author LORI THARPS considers how more Americans are creating new holiday traditions as the cultural and religious make-up of their families are changing. Tharps, who is Black American, has been tracking trends of multicultural families and transracial adoptions. We’ll also talk to NOAH LEAVITT, a sociologist at Whitman College, about how he and his wife navigate the holidays as a Jewish Asian couple.
