What is it like to be the son of a legend? Do you try to create your own identity or embrace your parentage like musician DWEEZIL ZAPPA? Zappa swings through Philadelphia a day after performing in Baltimore, the birthplace of his father, Frank Zappa. Dweezil has been leading his Grammy-winning band, Zappa Plays Zappa, through his father’s prolific canon since 2006. The guitarist, engineer, producer, actor and former MTV veejay will discuss being the heir to the legacy of his ground-breaking, influential musician and composer father, who died at 52 in 1993. He’s described Frank Zappa as a classical music composer who happened to use a rock band as his orchestra. Dweezil started performing with members of his father’s roster – Steve Vai, Napoleon Murphy Brock and Terry Bozzio – in the past and is currently touring with a hand-picked, new generation of musicians.
