Cyberwarfare and Cybersecurity

The Pentagon will soon release its new cyberwarfare strategy¬† that will classify a cyberattack from another nation as an act of war, possibly leading to a military response.¬† This news comes on the heels of two high profile cyberattacks.¬† Google recently announced that they had thwarted an attempt to steal the passwords of Gmail users. And, defense contractor Lockheed Martin said they had a ‚Äúsignificant and tenacious‚ÄĚ breach on their computer systems. ¬†So how significant is the threat of cyberwarfare from foreign nations?¬† ¬†And, what about the kinds of cyber threats most people are more familiar with ‚Äď hackers trying to swipe our credit card information online — is the web becoming more insecure?¬† Our guests are MATT BLAZE, an associate professor of computer and information science at the University of Pennsylvania and JAMES LEWIS, Director of the Technology and Public Policy Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
