The wedding and the Donald. Is this news?

May 3, 2011

Hour 2

Over 8,000 journalists were in London last week to cover the royal wedding. American network and cable news organizations pulled out all the stops, sending their A-list talent abroad and hiring British experts to provide commentary.  According to Nielsen the share of U.S. news coverage of the nuptials was twice that of the U.K. and Australia.  Meanwhile, earlier last week to the dismay of many, Donald Trump and the “birthers” saturated the news, prompting the President to reveal his Hawaiian long-form birth certificate. We talk about all this and changes in the television news landscape with ERIC DEGGANS, TV/Media Critic at the St. Petersburg Times, and ROBERT THOMPSON of Syracuse University.
