Barbara Attie and Janet Goldwater on their documentary Mrs. Goundo's Daughter

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

Filmmakers Barbara Attie and Janet Goldwater join us to talk about their film Mrs. Goundo's Daughter. The documentary follows the efforts of a local woman from Mali in her quest to secure asylum to save her two year old daughter from genital mutilation.   It is also the story of the African tradition of female genital cutting, which dates back thousands of years—and how it affects people's lives in just two of the many places where the practice is being debated today. We're also joined by Tiana Bien-Aime from Equality Now an organization working to a global end to female genital mutilation.
