Michelle Alexander on 'The New Jim Crow'
Tuesday, December 14th, 2010
Legal scholar MICHELLE ALEXANDER argues in her new book that the mass incarceration of young black men in America is the contemporary equivalent to the Jim Crow laws from decades past. The disproportionate imprisonment of African Americans, Alexander says, serves as a kind of racial control and creates a modern racial caste system. Alexander, an Associate Professor of Law at Moritz College of Law, talks to Marty about her provocative book, The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness.
