Kwame Anthony Appiah on 'The Honor Code' in global politics

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

Hour 2

In his new book, The Honor Code, philosopher KWAME ANTHONY APPIAH explores how "honor" has influenced and brought about moral revolutions like footbinding in China and the end of the American slave trade.  He contends that it is people, not the government, in reaction to a collective feeling of shame, that compel a country to act against grave injustices.  Appiah is the president of the PEN American Center and professor of Philosophy at Princeton University.
