Fifty years ago this month the Food and Drug Administration announced its approval of the birth control pill. Much has been written about how its introduction enabled women to enter the work force, encouraged the sexual revolution and how, perhaps, it may even have undermined marriage. But our guest, historian Elaine Tyler May says the pill's greatest contribution was to mothers by allowing women to have children on their own terms. Her new book is "America and the Pill: A History of Promise, Peril, and Liberation."
