For years, education historian Diane Ravitch, was a leading proponent for school standards, school choice, and the free market's role in education. Overtime, however, she has become disillusioned with these education reform strategies and is now a leading critic of testing and charter schools. In this hour of "Radio Times," Marty talks with her about her change of mind and what she thinks can be done to turn around the nation's schools. Her new book is "The Death and Life of the Great American School System: How Testing and Choice are Undermining Education."

Young black men in Philadelphia and in cities across the country are overwhelmingly the victims and perpetrators of violent crime. And oftentimes, their physical wounds are accompanied by serious trauma that contributes to an ongoing cycle of violence. TED CORBIN and JOHN RICH are two Philadelphia physicians/researchers who are studying, caring for and working with young black men in Philadelphia to help them cope with and recover from the trauma associated with violent injuries. They are both affiliated with the Drexel University School of Public Health’s Center for Nonviolence and Social Justice.
