He returns to Radio Times to talk about his new book, The Poker Bride: The First Chinese in the West, about the difficult Chinese sojourners' experience in the Gold Rush of 1840s. As he examines the violent, romantic, true and tall-tales of the pioneers, he tells the story of Polly Bemis, one of Idaho’s most famous legends: a young Chinese woman, who was allegedly sold out of life of prostitution into a better, but rugged life in the Idaho Hills through a poker game.
