Despite the apparent strides made on the 2008 campaign trail by Democratic runnerup Hillary Clinton and Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, ANNE E. KORNBLUT argues in her new book, Notes from the Cracked Ceiling: Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin and What It Will Take for a Woman to Win, that the U.S. is not quite ready for a female president. Kornblut, the Washington Post’s White House correspondent, conducted extensive and exclusive interviews with many leading female politicians. She offers a blunt, honest look at the role of women in politics today, and suggests what needs to be done for them to break through that cracked ceiling.
