Matthew Sweet

During a career that stretches back to the mid-’80s, Matthew Sweet has never followed trends, though his landmark 1991 album Girlfriend was responsible for starting one — its bone-dry, caterwauling sonics opening up a wild and picturesque new terrain for restless singer/songwriters to inhabit and explore. Two decades later, Sweet has once again swung for the fences—and connected—with the boldly experimental yet still deeply personal Modern Art.

    Nice work, folks.
The Matthew Sweet episode was excellent. Mr. Sweet was very much relaxed and seemed to enjoy the interview sharing his various stories and providing some rare information about his life and his interests. The interviews mixed well with the concert segments.
    Thanks for putting this on.
Looking forward to more shows especially with more local Philly area artists. That would strike a chord even closer to home.

Thanks so much for your wonderful comment! Matthew was not only thrilled to see his many fans enjoying his 20 year anniversary tour of “Girlfriend”, but he was also very “sweet” in sharing some personal insights and history in our interview. He explained how his pottery making hobby relates to his view of music making. Overall, he had a great performance and interview. Thanks again for watching On Canvas. Thanks for the alert that the Matthew Sweet episode was posted. It was the last show on the first leg of the “Girlfriend” tour and the band was really into it! The sold-out house provided the energy. I had the opportunity to meet Matthew prior to the show and he couldn’t have been nicer. Shout out to his band especially Paul Chastain (bass) and Ric Menck (drums) formerly of the great power pop group Velvet Crush.

Errol, Thanks for your comments. We think it is important to keep the fans who attended the concert informed about when each artist’s full On Canvas performance and interview episode is airing through our email sign up at each show. The artists often disclose personal reflections or tidbits about themselves in their interviews that their fans may have never heard before. Just as you were able to meet the band at Sellersville Theater, On Canvas brings the band to our viewers in and up close and personal way as well. Thanks for your support.
Tonight at 10pm we feature North Mississippi Allstars!
