On Canvas

Frank Turner

For three often lonely years of life on the road, playing a brand of honest and passionate folk/punk, Frank Turner continued to rise to prominence with an ever increasing following. Inside the packed out tents, heaving with adoring fans and intrigued passers-by, Frank led the congregation in a mass sing-a-long; a stirring set that not only sparked the interest of the British mainstream and a wealth of American punk bands watched approvingly from the sidelines. Frank’s brand of folk songwriting, catchy melodies and punk passion had recently landed him a gig as part of the opening ceremonies for the 2012 Olympics in London.

Thanks for featuring Frank Turner. I can always count on On Canvas to present a wide variety of talent, old and new, and of all styles. I guess I live a sheltered life as I never heard of Frank Turner before…and now I have. Nice refreshing amalgamation of folk and punk. And I saw him here first On Canvas. “I won’t sit down, I won’t shut up, and most of all, I won’t grow up”…I know a few kids like that ha ha. As always, nice work pulling the show together, the editing and interview were all top shelf. Thanks!

Aedan, Frank Turner was one of the performers at our annual WHYY Connections Festival at Penn’s Landing. He had recently opened for the London Olympics, and has sold out huge arenas like Wembley Stadium. We love his punk rock approach to folk, and much wisdom is gained from his lyrics. His band literally jumps around the stage while performing which is most entertaining. They are very expressive about their music, which audiences find quite engaging and re-energizing.
Thanks for checking in and supporting On Canvas. We appreciate it!
