On Canvas

Cold War Kids

Cold War Kids’ road to success has been a gradual but rewarding one.  On Canvas featured their performance at the Trocadero recently. Through years of grueling recording and non-stop global touring with indie rock icons like Death Cab for Cutie, evolving their sound as each of their albums is created, the boys have certainly earned a name for themselves among peers and critics alike.  In the span of their relatively short career, the band has been described as mixing genres from soul to pop punk.  All three of their critically acclaimed LPs are distinct from one another, each containing wide ranges of sounds and emotions.  As their fan base continues to expand thanks to their outstanding live shows and most accessible album to date Mine Is Yours, Cold War Kids still manage to make the honest, genuine music that made them what they are today: a solid, respected rock n’ roll band.

Wow! These guys really put on a vibrant live show. Nathan Willett’s vocals are very expressive and soulful. It started out a little slow for me but I got in the groove of their rhythm and music soon enough. Thanks for showcasing them on On Canvas. I honestly had never heard of them before. Thanks to On Canvas, I get to experience a great variety of new music and artists and learn a little bit about them all in a 30 minute package! BTW, the camera editing during the live show was excellent. Nice timing and switching. Keep the great shows coming, guys!

Hi Aedan, Thank you for your positive comments! I am glad you appreciate our efforts to bring a great variety of music and artists to our viewers. We feature various genres, so there is something for everyone. The Cold War Kids have an indie-soul-punk sound, and bring that West Coast vibe to the stage with their visceral approach to songwriting. Nathan’s voice one that grows on you quickly, and the band’s energy is full throttle. Our truck engineer and editor, Pete Scaffidi is excellent, I have to agree.
Thanks again, and keep watching On Canvas!!
