On Canvas

Nicole Atkins

To say that Nicole Atkins has paid her dues to gain recognition in the music world would be a grave understatement. From playing in New Jersey coffeehouses and recording in her parents’ house to appearing in American Express and Old Navy commercials, Atkins has surely come a long way in her young life.  Often compared to the great Roy Orbison, the singer-songwriter has released two EPs and an album of her classic-yet-progressive brand of music on Columbia records, and even performed on The Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan O’Brien.  To truly appreciate Atkins’ delicate, original style, one has to see Nicole and her band the Black Sea in person at one of their engaging, intimate live shows, like we did in this episode of On Canvas.

Not only is Nicole a great songwriter and musician, but her dynamic personality and on-stage presence is complimented by her very talented band, The Black Sea. Stay tuned each week as we feature more fantastic artists and bring a kind of back stage pass to our viewers each Thursday at 10pm! Thanks for commenting. Lisa Gray/Associate Producer/On Canvas
