In 1936, when Gallup started tracking Labor issues, 72 % of Americans during that Great Depression, approved of Unions. Today in the midst of an economic slump, only 52% of the population believes in Labor unions.  Also,  President Obama fulfils a campaign promise by pulliong trops out of Iraq. All that and more  on What Are We Thinking with Frank Newport, editor in chief on the Gallup Poll and WHYY's Dave Heller.

This week on What Are We Thinking:

1.   Glenn Beck  rally in Washington focusing on God and country attracts  tens of thousands  of conservatives predominantly  white followers.

2.   Americans are more worried about the economy and jobs than in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

3.   Midterm elections High level of attention this week to Gallup’s generic ballot underscoring the possibility of a “wave” election in which the GOP takes over the House.  A lot to talk about.  This link is to George Stephanopoulos asking White House Press Sec’y Robert Gibbs about the  data: http://mediacenter.tveyes.com/downloadgateway.aspx?UserID=20248&MDID=525129&MDSeed=5029&Type=Media
