40th anniversary of Apollo 11 mission to the moon

Forty years ago the crew of the Apollo 11 spacecraft were preparing to go on the most historic space mission of all time. These were tumultuous times, America was in a cold war with the Soviet Union and engaged in a heated space race to be the first to touch down on the moon's surface. What was it like for these astronauts in the small cramped spacecraft? What kind of political pressure were they under to compete with the Russians and make it to the moon?
