Delaware Symphony Orchestra nominated for Latin Grammy

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

The Delaware Symphony Orchestra's first major label recording project results in its first nomination for a Latin Grammy.  The nomination is in the Best Classical Contemporary Composition Category.  The album, Interchange, is a collaborative effort of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.  The CD was recorded at the Grand Opera House in downtown Wilmington.

DSO executive director Lucinda Williams says the nomination will increase the DSO's profile and draw more collaboration with established musicians and, she hopes, more people to see the orchestra play.  "By taking us to this new level, we're clearly on the radar screen of other guest artists who may be interested in doing recording projects.  We become much more appealing to the outside presenting world as far as touring opportunities that will be made available.  It springboards us into a different category."

Williams says the DSO is looking to follow up on success of the the Interchange recording.  She says there are two possible recording projects in the near future.

The winners will be announced in November.  You can hear samples of the award nominated CD at Amazon.com.
