Volunteers at the Tri-state Bird Rescue have logged over 500 hours caring for a flock of pelicans.  These pelicans were found nearly starving and frost bitten in southern Maryland during the first week in January and transporting to the northern Delaware facility.

There have been 21 of the pelicans who have responded well to treatment.  The extent of their frost bite hasn't been fully determined.  Tri-state officials report they could be in the center another two months.  They want to wait for the weather to get warmer so these birds can be returned to the wild.

Meanwhile, their appetite continues to grow.  40 pounds of fish needs to be provided daily to keep those big birds fed.
