Arden tradition continues this weekend

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

It's a Labor Day Weekend tradition northern Delaware residents have enjoyed for more than a century.

This Saturday marks the 102nd Annual Arden Town Fair and Antiques Market.

David Burslem is this year's featured artist.  He says at age 64 he's had a renewed focus on creating his sculptural pieces. It hasn't always been easy to do while knee-deep in construction projects with his remodeling business.

"I've had exposure to aluminum materials since the late 60's while working in construction, and I was always imagining what I could do with it," David Burslem said.   "That's what I'm doing with my paintings now, I'm painting on aluminum or attaching  paintings to aluminum."

Artistry runs deep in Arden and in Burslem's family.  His brother, Alan, is also getting his pottery ready to sell at the fair.  It's something he started doing while still in college more than 30 years ago.

The brothers still live and create their art in Arden today.

The fair takes place Saturday, September 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Admission and parking are free and shuttles are also available.
