No good news for DE job hunters

The number of unemployed Delawareans increased by 2,000 in July mainly due to a drop in retail trade, financial activities, and wholesale trade.  Delaware's unemployment rate for July is 8.2%.  June's unemployment rate was 8.4%.  That drop in the unemployment rate is a bit misleading, however.  The reason the rate dropped is because fewer Delawareans are actively looking for work.  The department of labor doesn't count those who stop looking for work among the labor force.  That artificially lowers the unemployment rate.  Labor department officials say the total job market picture in Delaware is still one of weakness.

Over the last 12 months, more than 23,000 jobs have been lost in Delaware, that's a drop of 5.3%.  The only sectors to see an increase in jobs were education, health, and information.
