Del. Troopers crack down on DUI violators
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009
Delaware State Police have charged two men with drinking and driving, each for a seventh time. It's another example of why law enforcement and citizens groups are calling for stricter penalties.
Sergeant Joshua Bushweller of the State Police says he's never seen anything like it, two cases of such blatant disregard for drinking and driving laws happening within such a short period of time.
Bushweller: We're just fortunate that these troopers were proactively doing traffic enforcement and caught these individuals because of what they observed and prevented a fatal crash either these guys killing themselves or them killing your family or mine. And we're just so fortunate we got them off the road.
The question is how do you keep them, and other repeat offenders, off the road?
Law enforcement and citizens groups believe steeper fines and penalties and the use of ignition interlock devices are a good start.
