PhillyStat temporarily suspended by city

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

A much ballyhooed management tool is on hiatus at Philadelphia City Hall until an overhaul is completed by city officials.

Mayor Nutter began his term promising more accountability and PhillyStat was a visual example of what was going on in government. Meetings were broadcast on the city's cable channel and officials even made sure people spoke up so the audience could hear exactly what was going on in government.

The program was supposed to track how quickly city employees provide services or resolve problems so managers could track progress.

Now PhillyStat has been suspended. Mayor's spokesman Doug Oliver says the administration is re-tooling it.

"We want the system, the program to evolve to the point where leaders across all city agencies can use the information that phillystat generates to improve services."

Oliver says he expects the new PhillyStat to be unveiled sometime around the first of the year.
