Today the Philadelphia Police Department and FBI announced a new website to get help from citizens in apprehending bank robbers, armed robbers of commercial businesses, fugitives, and other criminals.
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
The website includes details of crimes and criminals and may intrigue fans of TV shows like COPS,
COPS Theme: Bad Boys, Bad Boys what you gonna do…
Citizens who go to the website can check out photos and send tips to law enforcement with the click of a button, or a phone call.
Police Department Captain Len Ditchkofsky says tips are valuable in crime-fighting.
Ditchkofsky: We right now in Philadelphia have a 100% clearance rate on our bank robberies so far this year due mainly to citizen tips on websites like this and putting their pictures on tv. So this a great tool. The more access the public has the better.
