Coping with another Philadelphia storm
Friday, February 26th, 2010
Philadelphia schools are closed for the second day in a row as yet another winter storm wallops the Delaware Valley.
The storm’s now expected to drop less snow than was originally predicted – but a series of big winter storms has already made it Philadelphia’s snowiest winter on record.
At Broad Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue cars, trucks, and buses flew by without any trouble, while pedestrians – including many students – stomp through snowy sidewalks.
North Philadelphia resident Denise Moore said the storm is wrecking her day.
Moore: I’m just leaving the social security office, and I have somewhere else to go and this storm is like really getting on my nerves because I hate it. I just hate the storm…My youngest grandaughter was supposed to have a birthday party tomorrow I guess we gonna have to cancel it….This is the way God intended it and Mother Nature you know they gotta do they thing.
Temple junior Saadiq Stewart and his friends laugh when asked what they think of the snow. They’re all very bundled up in hats and big jackets. Stewart says the snow is beautiful and he already knows how he will ride out the weather through the weekend.
Stewart: I’ll probably sleep a little more, drive a little slower, watch a couple more movies. Might even study, might even study!
Philadelphia officials are reminding residents to shovel their sidewalks and drive with caution.
