Philadelphia mayor signs energy efficiency law

The city of Philadelphia is moving forward to increase its energy efficiency.

A bill signed by Mayor Michael Nutter requires all new city buildings of more than 10,000 square-feet to meet the tough LEED silver energy efficiency standards. Councilman Jim Kenney leads the city council's Committee on the Environment. He says it's more than energy efficiency.
Kenney: This is not just about being green. This is not just about being good for the environment. It is about saving money, and as soon as we can get people to understand this is not just tree hugging, this is real economic development because it creates jobs and it's real economic savings because it saves energy dollars, we can get everyone to buy into this whole process.
Mayor Nutter has also made an agreement to do a complete energy audit on City Hall, the Criminal Justice Center, Municipal Services Building and One Parkway to find new ways to help save money through energy efficiency measures.
