Suburban Phila gun club resumes pigeon shoot
Tuesday, November 24th, 2009
An animal rights activist says a suburban gun club has broken its promise not to shoot pigeons on its property. Meanwhile county officials are taking a wait and see attitude.
The Philadelphia Gun Club had reached an agreement in the Spring with Bensalem Township to stop shooting pigeons at its property, but animal rights activist Elissa Katz says she was summoned to a neighboring property when the shooting resumed on earlier this month.

Katz: I saw numerous birds getting wounded, they would flutter in the air and they would be shot and they wouldn't fall to the ground they would flutter up into the trees, but in not in a normal flight pattern, they were clearly wounded. and then they would perch on a tree and flutter off not on the gun club property but elsewhere.
Bensalem Township officials say they are not filing any charges at this time but are watching how a lawsuit involving a similar pigeon shooting in Pike County is resolved.

The price is wrong Mr. Barker!!!
It is laughable to see coward men shooting little timid birds with big shot gun.
Those pigeon shooters are truly shameless people without any conscience.
I wonder exactly what kind of thought they are going to have in their death bed.
What is wrong with the Senators and Representatives? Why have they not addressed this yet? The budget was only 101 days late, surely 12 years is enough time to pass this bill??
Why anyone would still participate in these cruel shoots makes no sense. You're not hunting, you're shooting a bird that's launched out of a box right in front of you. Something that can easily be replaced with clay targets instead. Even more angering, is the Gun Club's complete ignorance of an agreement they made! Thankfully people like those in the Pike County lawsuit and activists like Katz keep the pressure on, but seriously!
All you have to do is google pigeon shoots, and you'll reach the same conclusion – they are unneccessary and cruel.
Thank you Katz for your efforts. Bucks County officials need to step in and stop this. Shooting live animals lauched from boxes is right up there with cockfighting and dogfighting. What kind of people cling to old traditions like this? Truly disgusting.
