The 56 new America the Beautiful quarters are being coined to commemorate some of the most scenic places in the United States. Janna Pruitt is a spokesperson for the U.S. Mint. She explains how the sites were picked.
Pruitt: The governor of the state recommended one preferred site and three alternatives and then it was discussed with the jurisdiction, that is to say national park service, fish and wildlife service, whoever has the management of that particular place.
The Pennsylvania pick is Gettysburg, New Jersey is Ellis Island National Monument better know as The Statue of Liberty and Delaware's site is Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, on Delaware Bay.
