14 DelCo projects funded by stimulus

Delaware County public transportation passengers will soon see some major renovations courtesy of the Federal Government. SEPTA has 14 DelCo projects being funded with $50 million dollars in stimulus money.

Chief Engineer Jeffrey Knueppel says in September SEPTA will begin replacing 1920s era rail with new continuous welded rail along the Media/Sharon Hill Line. He says this year SEPTA will also start other projects: buying 40 hybrid buses, renovating the 69th Street Terminal, and installing a new passenger platform at the Darby Transportation Center.
Knueppel says the stimulus money is meant to create and preserve jobs while improving SEPTA infrastructure.
Knueppel: And so we looked to create jobs that were spread throughout the region that hit all different sizes of companies and hit a variety of types of companies – such as people who did track work vs. station work. We really worked to spread the work around.
Knueppel says all of the Delaware County projects will be completed within two years.
