SEPTA to rename rail routes

SEPTA is working on an effort to change the names of its rail routes. Exactly what the lines will be called is still up in the air.

The current system of "R" and a number combined with locations can be confusing to even the most experienced users. SEPTA's Assistant General Manager Kim Heinle says the goal of changing the names is to make it easier for everyone to navigate the system, particularly occasional riders.
Heinle: We know from testimonials from them as well as our own operating people there is some confusion, they get confused in Center City in particular about where to go, what train to get on and we have an obligation to take that seriously and see if there is a better way to name our lines.
The head of the Delaware Valley Association of Rail Passengers agrees the naming is confusing, but says at this point more research is necessary. SEPTA is researching the use of names, colors or numbers for the trains.
