Work important to retirees health

Working part time after retirement may be good for your health and mental well-being – claims a new study by the American Psychological Association. Researchers examined data from over 12 thousand participants, and found that participants who remained employed experienced fewer health problems than those who retired fully. People who stayed in the same field reported better mental health than other retirees.

What do these findings mean for people ready to retire – or dreaming about that far-away date when they don't have to go to work anymore?

WHYY's Behavioral Health reporter Maiken Scott spoke with psychologist Dr. Dan Gottlieb.
