Digest This: Pregnancy and medications

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

Digest This is a weekly, hour-long online discussion hosted by WHYY’s Health and Science team. Join us every Tuesday at noon. Log in at lunchtime to pose questions to experts and our reporters, voice opinions, and connect to people with similar concerns.

THIS WEEK’S TOPIC: Pregnancy and medications

Don’t drink coffee, don’t eat tuna, don’t clean up cat litter, don’t get too stressed out – pregnant women hear many messages about the impact of their choices on a developing baby.

For pregnant women with medical conditions, there’s even more at stake. They may have to balance their own health needs with those of the fetus – without much information to guide them.

So how can moms-to-be get information on drug safety? What considerations must women take when breast feeding? Have you had to make a decision about your health while pregnant?

Dr. C. Neill Epperson, the director of the Penn Center for Women’s Behavioral Wellness, will help answer questions about health concerns during pregnancy, and after.

When: 12:00 noon Tuesday, December 22nd
