Survey: Families delaying health care due to cost

A survey of hundreds of New Jersey families finds more of them are having difficulty affording health care coverage.

The New Jersey for Health Care Coalition says 77% of families without health insurance are delaying needed medical care because of cost.

Reverend Bruce Davidson, Director of the Lutheran Governmental Ministry of New Jersey, says one of his parishioners died of an infection from a leg injury because he could not afford treatment.

Davidson: It's time for us to use our resources to make sure that people that need medical treatment that will keep them alive have access to that treatment. This is a matter of justice but more than that it's a matter of life and death.

The coalition is urging that health care reform include a way to measure affordability to ensure families do not have to pay more for medical treatment than they can afford.
