I've always thought it was disingenuous to wear an "awareness ribbon" without doing more. It seems to me that the pink ribbons should be given as prized representations of charitable gifts. This really hits home when I look at the NFL players wearing all manner of pink. Why not ask all NFL players to make a significant donation and allow only those who do to wear the pink as a point of pride. Good story.
