Increase in Delaware H1N1 cases

State health officials say they saw an uptick in confirmed cases of the H1N1 or swine flu for the week of September 20. During that time, 48 cases were confirmed. Despite the increase in cases, Director of the Delaware Division of Public Health Dr. Karyl Rattay says, "Delaware has not seen severe illness from H1N1 influenza virus to date."
The state's first shipment of 8,000 doses of FluMist nasal spray for swine flu is expected to be delivered next Tuesday. Those doses will be distributed mainly to hospitals, with some going to primary care doctors. That's part of the effort to inoculate health workers. The swine flu vaccine won't be available at public clinics and pharmacies until next month.
