Possible deal to build solar plant in dover

Delmarva Power and the city of Dover are considering a deal to build the largest solar power plant in the region.
The facility would create clean power, jobs and a one-of-a-kind industrial park complex. The city's utility committee reviewed a solar energy purchase agreement at a meeting last Monday night. Now the deal goes before the Dover City Council.

Dover officials say negotiations are nearly complete that would transform city-owned farm land into a 900 acre solar facility. City manager Tony Diprima says the 10 megawatt plant would generate electricity for more than 1700 homes.
Diprima: and it makes sense from an environmental perspective. Our obligation to try to improve air quality and less dependence on foreign sources of power.
If approved, the solar plant itself could be up and running by the end of 2010.
