Flu meds en route

Hundreds of thousands of anti-flu medications are on their way to
Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania in preparation of a possible
pandemic. State health departments say the next step is determine how to distribute them.

The Pennsylvania health department is expecting a shipment of a half million anti-viral medications this week. That would bring the state's total to nearly two million doses — which does not include the stock already available through healthcare providers. Health department spokesperson Stacey Kriedemann says currently the plan is to give them only to people who have contracted swine flu.

Kriedemann: However, of course, that may change. If we get a case we will determine whether or not we need to distribute this to other exposed individuals.

Kriedemann says the department is currently tracking where medications are stocked around the state, and boosting its flu surveillance. At least nine states have confirmed cases of swine flu.
