Del. beefs up Swine Flu efforts

State health officials in Delaware say there have been no confirmed swine flu cases there yet. But the state has plans in place in case the deadly disease reaches the First State.

Paul Silverman, Associate Deputy Director of the Division of Public Health, says Delaware is in a stage of what he calls enhanced monitoring. Fortunately, Silverman says so far there has been nothing out of the ordinary.
Silverman: Well, it has the potential to become a serious problem. But at this point in time delawareans really don't have anything to worry about, unless they've been to mexico.
But if the swine flu does make its way to Delaware, health officials say they are ready. While a vaccine could take up to six months to develop, in the meantime, the state has stockpiled enough anti-viral medication to treat 120-thousand people.
