New Jersey AG targets crimes against immigrants

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

The New Jersey attorney general’s office is taking action to deal with an increase in violent crimes against immigrants.

Deputy Attorney General Hester Agudosi said Tuesday more undocumented immigrants in the Garden State are being attacked, but they are reluctant to tell police about it because their afraid they’ll be deported.

“Not only have we had a number of assaults but we’ve also had a number of homicides that have occurred.” said Agudosi. “Often times, it’s because of this fear of coming forward and reporting it to law enforcement that the bad guys feel they can target these individuals because they’re not going to report it.”

Agudosi said educational outreach to immigrant communities must continue to get more victims to come forward so criminals are prosecuted.
